Work Out With NO Equipment

I am a strong believer that everyone should exercise daily. Exercise does so much for you physically and mentally that you’re doing yourself a disservice if you are not moving your body. Not only does it improve your overall physical fitness, but it improves your mood and reduces stress and anxiety. Let’s face it; we’re all spending way more time at home than we did before this pandemic. Instead of buying loads of expensive workout equipment, check out these ways to work out with no equipment.

Get Outside

Are you needing to get some cardio in with no treadmill in sight? No problem! Head outside to take in some fresh air with your cardio. You can take a walk around your neighborhood, go hiking on some local trails, or up your running game. Think outside the box and try something new like biking or rollerblading. The possibilities are endless! And the best part is, being outdoors is free and refreshing for your mind and body.

Yoga

Yoga is such a versatile workout. It can be a slow peaceful meditative workout or a really good strength-building workout. You can tailor it to whatever your body needs. Think you need an official yoga mat and blocks to do yoga? Nope! You can do yoga on any surface that feels comfortable. So go grab a comfortable spot on your rug or carpet and get a nice yoga workout in. If you’re not sure how to start, check out a yoga studio online. So many studios and coaches have instructional videos or are holding virtual yoga classes during the pandemic.

Bodyweight workouts

Don’t let the lack of traditional weights deter you from getting a good workout in. Just look around your house for items that are heavy enough to substitute as weights in your workout. For example, do you have a jug of milk? Laundry detergent? Or even an unopened box of cat litter? Perfect! You have some free weights to work with. Sometimes you have to be creative to work out with no equipment but it’s totally doable!

Oh, and don’t forget another good weight to use…your body! Bodyweight exercises are extremely effective and require literally zero equipment. Basic bodyweight exercises include moves like push-ups, planks, sit-ups, squats, and lunges. This type of training is very active since your whole body is usually involved in each exercise. Bodyweight exercise increases your heart rate quickly and actually burns more fat while increasing energy levels. The effects of a bodyweight workout go much further than you might think. It improves agility, balance, and flexibility. All of these things mean better overall health across the board.
