Show Notes:

In this episode, Melissa discusses the topic of dietary fat and how essential the right kinds of fats are for the body. She goes into detail about the different types of fats and what they can do for body, brain, and cell function.

Key Points From This Episode:

01:23 Cells
02:49 Different Fats
07:14 Omega 3
09:46 Nutrients

Cells

Fat is essential for your health. All the cells in your body have a fatty layer around it. If you aren’t getting healthy fats derived in nature, your cells aren’t going to have a nice, soft layer around them. This equates to unhealthy cells.

Different Fats

There are four different kinds of fats. Saturated, Monounsaturated, Polyunsaturated, and Trans Fats. Three of the four have great benefits. You want to limit saturated fat and make sure you are getting it from natural sources. The one you want to avoid completely is trans fats.

Omega 3

Right now many people have high amounts of omega 6 fatty acids in the body and not a lot of omega 3 fatty acids. You want to make sure you get a good amount of omega 3 in your diet and watch where the 6 is coming from. This helps with inflammation, keeping you satiated, improves hormone health, and assists cells with absorbing essential vitamins.

Nutrients

You don’t have to focus so much on calories. If you are eating healthy fats and a nutrient rich diet, calories aren’t going to matter as much as what you are putting in your body. Just make sure not to over eat, don’t be afraid of good fats, and eat whole, natural foods. You’ll feel really good when you do these things.
