Story

Lauren talks about her start in the health and fitness industry at the young age of sixteen and her transition into med school at the age of twenty one. She’s a long time professional dancer and has always been interested in helping people lead healthy lives. She now works as a Functional Medicine Doctor, working to optimize people’s health through a bigger scope than just traditional western medicine. She takes on a whole body approach to medicine.

Metabolism

Diets that work off of the calories in, calories out method fail most of the time. Long term weight loss doesn’t work that way. People may look good from the outside, but their internal health could be a mess. In order to be healthy from the inside out, we have to have balanced hormones and a healthy metabolism.

Macronutrients

There are three main macronutrients: fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Fat and protein have essential elements for the body to function, but this doesn’t mean carbohydrates (in certain capacities) aren’t important for the body too. It’s important to maintain a healthy balance of macronutrients to maintain a healthy metabolism.

Habits

We have to take ownership of our own health and prioritize healthy habits. Get proper sleep, eat whole foods, get moving, and decrease stress. These are the four pillars to becoming a healthier person. Intermittent fasting is another great way to support your metabolism by giving your body time to digest and reset. A good medical option includes a deep dive lab test.

Glucose

There are devices that can measure the body’s glucose levels within a twenty-four hour period, which will help show the effects of food in the body as well as other factors. The more we can understand metabolic health and insulin levels in the body, the better we’re going to feel.

Toxins

It’s really important to pay attention to what we put in, on, and around our body. There are a lot of toxins which will disrupt hormones. Same with pesticides, plants and produce tend to carry chemicals that are harmful to the body. It’s good to make small, smart changes to better protect ourselves.
